Divine Chocolate was announced Favourite Fairtrade Product at the prestigious annual Good Housekeeping Food Awards 2008. Voted for by Good Housekeeping’s 1.5 million readers, Divine received the award amongst other category winners including Waitrose (Favourite Supermarket), Loch Fyne (Favourite Restaurant) and Bon Cap Syrah 2005 (Best Organic Wine).
The event was compèred by eminent cookery and food writer Prue Leith, and the prize for Favourite Fairtrade Product was presented by Jane Asher. Held at One-o-One in Knightsbridge, the Award ceremony was a glamorous event attended by leaders in the food and restaurant worlds.
All Divine products – now a range of over 25 including eight different bars, chocolate drinks, seasonal products and gifts – carry the Fairtrade Mark, which gives an independently audited guarantee that farmers supplying the cocoa receive the Fairtrade price and meet all Fairtrade standards. In addition to this, Divine Chocolate Ltd is co-owned by the farmers who supply the cocoa – members of the Kuapa Kokoo cooperative in Ghana – so they share in the profits too.
Divine won the Favourite Fairtrade Product award jointly with Green & Black’s Maya Gold – the Fairtrade Marked product in the Green & Black’s chocolate range.
Divine Chocolate was also recently awarded Best Social Enterprise of 2007.
Divine is available in all the major supermarkets, Oxfam, ethicalsuperstore.com and independent food stores nationwide. Look out for the new Easter range this month.
