A Dubbly good Father's Day with Ladybird

16 June 2009

Settle down with your child, a good book & a bar of Dubble chocolate – a winning combination.

Dubble, the only Fairtrade chocolate brand especially for kids, is joining forces with children’s publishing giant Ladybird, and TV star Richard Hammond for Father’s Day this year. Ladybird’s Reading Dads Campaign aims to inspire fathers to read to their children more, and with Dad’s favourite Richard Hammond fronting the campaign, combined with gorgeous bars of Dubble chocolate what more encouragement do fathers need?!

Dubble has been working with Comic Relief to create innovative educational resources for teachers and children for the past 10 years and is delighted to be working with Ladybird for their Reading Dads events at Borders bookstores across the country this Father’s Day. With only 42% of fathers reading to their children compared to 76% of mothers , too many fathers and their children are missing out on the pleasure of reading together. All 42 Borders stores across the UK will be hosting Reading Dads events over Father’s Day weekend (20th-21st June) and inviting fathers to bring their children and join in with opportunities to read stories aloud and plenty of fun and games. Richard Hammond is helping inspire other dads at www.ladybird.com/readingdads where he reads his favourite fairytale aloud. An events pack including a delicious Dubble bar of chocolate will be provided for every father and child to take away. Back home fathers and children can settle in for an afternoon or evening with a good book and a crunchy milk chocolate bar of Dubble, and can be assured that the farmers who grow the cocoa in the bar are receiving a fair deal.

Find out more of how Reading Dads just loves Dubble!

Dubble is the Fairtrade chocolate brand created for young people by young people – and it’s still the only Fairtrade chocolate brand especially created for children (though kids be warned; adults love it too!). Dubble was launched by parent company Divine Chocolate and Comic Relief back in 2000 in order to offer young people the choice of great tasting chocolate products which come with both a Fairtrade guarantee and added Comic Relief. After one bite of Dubble’s smooth milk chocolate with a crispy crunch, fathers and children will be hooked – we promise!

In addition to ensuring that the farmers receive a Fairtrade price, Dubble is actually co-owned by the co-operative of farmers in Ghana who supply all its cocoa. This means that the co-operative has direct involvement in running the company and that the 45,000 farmer members receive a share in Dubble’s profits. Dubble really is the chocolate that makes everyone feel good!

If you can’t make it to your nearest Borders store this weekend, you can always join in online. Dubble will be running a competition for its young Fairtrade supporters – the ‘Dubble Agents’! Sign up to enter the competition and for YOUR chance to win a selection of Ladybird books and Dubble Fairtrade chocolate!

Dubble Fairtrade chocolate is available from Co-op stores, Oxfam shops or online. Dads can also buy gorgeous bars of Divine Chocolate (Dubble’s parent company) in store at Borders this weekend and all year round – so there’s a chocolate for young and old this Father’s Day!

Editors’ notes:

• Dubble is still the only Fairtrade chocolate created specifically for the youth market and is made with cocoa bought on Fairtrade terms from a farmers’ co-operative in Ghana. The Kuapa Kokoo co-operative also supplies the chocolate for Divine Chocolate Ltd., Dubble’s parent company. Divine and Dubble’s ethical credentials go one step further because Kuapa Kokoo actually owns 45% of the company so each of the 45,000 farmers get a share in the company profits. The Dubble range includes a crunchy milk chocolate 40g bar made with caramelised crisped rice, a Dubble Easter Egg and Dubble Mini Speckled Eggs. Dubble is available from Oxfam stores nationwide and www.ethicalsuperstore.com. Divine Chocolate Ltd. is also owned by Twin Trading and The Body Shop International, and is supported by Christian Aid and Comic Relief.
