Esther Mintah Ephraim is a cocoa farmer from Agyedum society in the Western region of Ghana and has been a member of Kuapa Kokoo for 12 years.

At 33 years old, Esther has an impressive resume. She is a Recorder for the Agyedum Society where she started a women’s group, treasurer for the Manso Amenfi district, and was recently voted in as Protocol Officer of Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union on Kuapa Kokoo’s National Executive Council.

Esther learned about Kuapa Kokoo through a friend of her father who invited her to an organized meeting for their society. At the meeting she found out that Kuapa Kokoo is a cooperative owned by cocoa farmers and works to improve the total wellbeing of its members. What amazed her most was the fact that decisions concerning the organization are made by cocoa farmers and that Kuapa has a mission of promoting farmers’ welfare and improve women’s opportunities and livelihoods.

Through Kuapa Kokoo her society now has access to a potable drinking water which has solved the issues of waterborne diseases, farmers now enjoy free medical care, and she has used the Fairtrade premium to sponsor her siblings’ education and care for her parents in their old age.
