Mavis Adu Gyamfi is 30 years old, and a native of Sefwi - Akotombra in the northern part of western region. Mavis pursued Accounting at Kumasi polytechnic in the Ashanti region of Ghana and holds a diploma in Business Studies.

Mavis joined Kuapa Kokoo, the co-operative of cocoa farmers who co-own Divine Chocolate, in the year 2009 as a Recorder. Mavis says ‘’I decided to join Kuapa when I benefited from the Kuapa mobile clinic project’’. Mavis’ parents are also cocoa farmers and members of Kuapa Kokoo.

Being a Recorder means that Mavis checks that the cocoa she buys for Divine chocolate is 'the best of the best' as well as pays all the cocoa farmers on time for their quality cocoa.

Mavis says, “As soon as I joined, I was trained to improve my farming skills – how to produce pa pa paa (the best of the best) cocoa and to improve my yields. As a result I have doubled my yield and can now produce 40 sacks of cocoa from my 6 acre farm, whereas before it was 20. Then I put myself up for election. The other farmers could see I was well educated and was good with figures, and they trusted me, a young woman, to be a good Recorder”.

Her number one ambition is to be a full time farmer. In her leisure time, Mavis loves reading and the food she enjoys most is fufu.
