We're proud to introduce our new Organic Line. This selection of high cocoa content bars features feelgood flavors and rich dark chocolate with cocoa sourced from São Tomé.

Divine Chocolate Organic 

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new Organic line! This is our first organic line, and the first time sourcing cocoa from CECAQ-11, a co-operative of farmers from the island of São Tomé, located off the coast of West Africa. Historically known as “Chocolate Island,” São Tomé is where some of the finest cocoa in the world originates.
This new organic line is made with a higher cocoa content (85%), which means less sugar content and a rich, smooth flavor. Not only is the new line Fairtrade Certified, certified organic by the USDA, Non-GMO Project Verified, and vegan, but it is also made without palm oil, soy or artificial flavors.
The new line includes 4 bars, each with ingredients that chocolate explorers will enjoy when aiming for a delicious treat that complements a healthful lifestyle.

85% Dark Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs

Cocoa nibs are 100% pure cocoa beans that have been harvested, fermented, dried, cleaned and consumed for many healthful reasons. Cocoa nibs are high in fiber, antioxidants, and add a delicious crunch to the rich 85% dark chocolate in this new bar.

Turmeric and ginger are both considered superfoods, and this bar packs a punch of warmth and invigoration in every bite. The richness of the 85% dark chocolate delightfully supports the ginger and turmeric in this antioxidant filled bar.

This bar is bursting with flavor. The smooth dark chocolate highlights the subtle sweetness of the blueberry and the popped quinoa gives a delightful crunch.


CECAQ-11 Co-operative

CECAQ-11 is a fairtrade and organic certified co-operative located in tropical São Tomé. The co-op consists of 1,135 farmer members, 402 of which are women. This democratic institution is divided into 23 associations with leadership in each. This allows members of the co-operative to elect which members they believe will serve the best as leaders to the rest. Being a part of a co-operative is helpful in many ways for farmers, with the main benefit being that by selling the cocoa within the co-operative to companies like Divine, farmers receive a higher price through Fairtrade standards and enjoy more resources to sustain their livelihoods.

CECAQ-11 values democracy, transparency, and openness in all they do. Since 2003, this co-op has been developing and growing their membership with some help from the International Fund for Agricultural Development. This is exciting for us at Divine Chocolate because we are thrilled to have more opportunities to work with farmers in supporting them economically and socially.

Meet the Farmers

Sisters Rosa and Germenia have both been farmers in the CECAQ-11 cooperative since 2009. Both farm 2.5 hectares of land and are married with children. We asked both sister what makes them happy. Germenia replied saying, "it’s the community here that makes me happy. We are unified and as one.” Rosa says that her "family and my community make me happy. Growing cocoa and earning more money would make me happy too!” 

Mario Cardoso
Mario Cardoso is also a farmer member of the co-operative. He joined the  co-operative in 2009, along with his parents. At 25 years old, Mario is married and has a little girl. He looks after his parents' five hectare farm and earns a living from farming cocoa beans and also bananas and matabala which they sell locally. In 2016 Mario was voted President of the Mendes de Silva farmers’ association. “I was respected by my fellow farmers,” he explains, “and they could see that my behaviour was exemplary, that I looked after my farm well, and had an education.” His message to chocolate lovers discovering the new São Tomé bars is, “I’m proud some of the cocoa you’re tasting comes from my village – Mendes de Silva. I know the cocoa is well cared for, and very good!”
