We were saddened to hear the news from Traidcraft proposing to cease trading at the end of the 2018.
Traidcraft was one of the original founders of the Fairtrade Mark, the initial galvanising moment of a great consumer movement. Over the years they have been a fantastic customer and helped Divine Chocolate build our farmer-owned company into the business it is today, supporting small family farmers in Ghana through Fairtrade Price and Premium, farmer programmes and profit dividends. Their dedicated network of Fairtraders have been fundamental to our success, advocating for fairer terms of trade while selling a great range of Fairtrade products.
On a more personal note, I can remember well that it was selling Traidcraft mints, made with Cuban sugar, back in 1986 when I was a lay chaplain at Queen Mary’s College, that made me see the potential in Divine Chocolate and one of the reasons I applied for the MD job here 19 years ago.
The good news is that you can still support Traidcraft as they have some beautiful collections available now. Do look at their website and fill your Christmas stockings, Easter baskets and more with delightful gifts that are supporting some of the poorest people in the world, including a lovely range of Divine Chocolate! Also Traidcraft Exchange is going to continue it important work advocating for trade justice and all donations are welcome.
At Divine, we thank everyone at Traidcraft for their support and enthusiasm over the years and wish them all the very best over this difficult time.
